Dr. Payman Simoni Comments on the Alleged Tragic Complications Stemming From Usher’s Wife’s Plastic Surgery
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ — As plastic surgery is becoming more and more common, there has been an increase in Americans seeking less expensive surgery abroad, which as Dr. Payman Simoni, a renowned Beverly Hills plastic surgeon warns, can have disastrous consequences, as allegedly has been the case with Usher’s wife, who was widely reported as having had plastic surgery in Brazil.
Dr. Simoni points out that while there are many excellent plastic surgeons in Brazil, one also must factor in the anesthesia. An overwhelming percentage of fatal or near-fatal complications from plastic surgery are the result of general anesthesia. So, while a patient might be able to find a great plastic surgeon abroad, it might not be readily apparent that one must also find an equally good anesthesiologist and ensure that the anesthesia equipment is up to date.
Setting aside the major complications that can occur with surgery or anesthesia, there are many other factors that many do not take into account when considering medical tourism. Many small problems such as wound healing or scarring are common side effects of any plastic surgery procedure. Many of these problems will require multiple visits to the surgeon for an optimum result, which can be challenging for a patient far from home, which can eliminate some of the cost savings.
“While I have not treated Usher’s wife, in my opinion, the reported need for a neurosurgeon strongly suggests complications relating to general anesthesia, which can include stroke, hypoxic brain injury, and intracranial bleeding,” said Dr. Simoni.
“The good news is that the current downturn in the economy has led to deep discounts at many plastic surgery practices right here in the U.S.,” concluded Dr. Simoni.
