Plastic Surgery- Business Soars in China
In recent years plastic surgery has become one of the biggest businesses in China. The Chinese have a growing obsession with beauty, and millions go under the knife each year to improve their looks. However, they aren’t getting breast enlargements or facelifts, they are getting what is known as “double eyelids”, an eyelid surgery that aims to make eyes look less Asian and more European. Other common procedures include nose enlargements (which make noses more prominent), jawbone reshaping, and liposuction of the cheeks, all of which are intended to make their faces more similar to Caucasians. According to statistics from the MOH (Ministry of Health) about 3 million people had cosmetic surgery on the mainland in 2010 and the industry is worth and estimated 15 Billion Yuan ($2.9 Billion Dollars).
