Top Cosmetic Plastic Procedures of 2012
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released its yearly statistics of plastic surgery procedures of the previous year. Based on the report, plastic surgery has been on the rise over the past three years. The year 2012 has seen a 5 percent surge compared to 2011, with 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States.
Minimally-invasive procedures have been the driving force behind this rise. However, the cosmetic surgical procedures remained unchanged. “It is no surprise that people are seeking less invasive treatments. The jittery economy and need for less time off work drive patients to opt for less expensive and quicker recovery options”, explains Dr. Payman Simoni, a Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon.
The interesting part of the report was that breast augmentation has seen a decline of 7 percent. While facial rejuvenation surgeries like eyelid lift and facelift have seen a rise of 4 to 6 percent respectively. Rhinoplasty (nose job) showed no change compared to the year prior.
Botox and Lasers
Minimally-invasive procedures such as Botox, soft tissue fillers, and laser skin resurfacing have seen the most growth in 2012, up 9 percent. 2012 marked the highest number of Botox injections performed to date.
Other facial rejuvenation procedures like soft tissue fillers, laser skin resurfacing and microdermabrasion also saw sizable increases with 509,000 more procedures completed in 2012, which is up 9 percent over 2011.
